CHARITY WORK

The lodges continue to do outstanding charitable work within their various communities. The National Council is a strong supporter of the Thalassemia Foundation and to date have donated over $200,000 to this worthy cause. Thalassemia is the name of a group of genetic blood disorders. Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying component of the red blood cells. It consists of two different proteins, an alpha and a beta. If the body doesn’t produce enough of either of these two proteins, the red blood cells do not form properly and cannot carry sufficient oxygen. The result is anemia that begins in early childhood and lasts throughout life. Read more at Thalassemia Web Site

The Order also raises considerable amounts of money for other charities and provides assistance to the needy. Collectively the Order Sons of Italy of Canada has donated over $2,000,000 to various charitable organizations.
